Wilmington, Del. – Today, U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) was in New Castle County shining a light on the impact that the Trump administration’s cuts to essential programs are having in Delaware. From the Food Bank of Delaware to Henrietta Johnson Medical Center, organizations who have served Delawareans for years are finding it harder to do their jobs.

“While Republicans in Washington are advancing legislation that would make drastic and deadly cuts to essential programs like Medicaid, communities in Delaware are already finding it harder to access lifesaving services,” said Senator Blunt Rochester. “We need to be supporting our food banks and federally qualified health centers, not making their jobs more difficult. I am proud to have spent today with the Food Bank of Delaware and Henrietta Johnson Medical Center. They know that in me, they will always have a champion on Capitol Hill.”

Just a couple of weeks ago, the Trump administration cancelled deliveries to the Food Bank of Delaware that amounted to a loss of 900,000 meals. Blunt Rochester visited the Food Bank’s Newark location and their new Healthy Pantry Center, which received federal funding from the American Rescue Plan Act, legislation championed by Blunt Rochester. She reaffirmed her support of the Food Bank’s work.

Blunt Rochester, a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, then visited Henrietta Johnson Medical Center in Wilmington. As a federally qualified health center, Henrietta Johnson provides medical services to Delawareans in some of our most under resourced communities. A leader in the effort to bolster our health care workforce, Blunt Rochester joined Henrietta Johnson leadership in discussing the impact of recent and potential funding cuts to their operations, including to Medicaid and federal grants.
