Dover, Del. –Yesterday, U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) spent the day in Dover, where she visited Delaware State University, Modern Maturity Center, local small businesses, and the Delaware Developmental Disabilities Council. During her visit, she spoke to constituents who are concerned about the harmful impact of the President’s executive orders and reckless funding freezes.
“There is a responsible way to govern and a reckless way to govern, and this administration has chosen the reckless way,” said Senator Blunt Rochester. “I spent the day in Dover to shine a light on how the Trump administration’s actions are already impacting Delawareans. I am grateful to the folks I met with who courageously shared their compelling lived experiences with me. As their Senator, I will continue to use every lever at my disposal to protect their hard-earned benefits as well as the programs and funding that can – in some cases – be lifesaving for them, their families, our state, and our nation.”
First, Senator Blunt Rochester visited labs on Delaware State University’s campus whose federal funding is threatened by the Trump administration’s cuts to critical research. She previously highlighted the detrimental effects of the Trump administration’s illegal cuts to National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding, and their impact on Delaware universities.
Blunt Rochester then went to the Modern Maturity Center where she heard about the tireless work staff do to provide resources and programming for local seniors. She also heard directly from seniors on the need to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid from Republican efforts to take away these programs.
In the afternoon, Blunt Rochester joined Anastasia Jackson, Kent County Small Business Director for the Delaware Division of Small Business, to visit three small businesses in Dover: Rail Haus, Stonerail Market, and Coleman’s CNA Academy. Small businesses are the backbone of Delaware’s economy and play a critical role in creating jobs and providing services for Delawareans. The Senator and small business owners talked about how this administration’s economic policies will set small businesses back.
Lastly, Blunt Rochester met with the Delaware Developmental Disabilities Council. They engaged in a sobering conversation on how the Trump administration’s proposed cuts to Medicaid would be especially harmful to the thousands of Delawareans with developmental disabilities.
