Washington, DC – Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) released the following statement after voting against the latest Republican budget resolution:
“In the middle of the night, Republicans put forward a deeply partisan budget resolution that will have serious consequences for Delaware and the nation. This legislation is nothing more than a $4.6 trillion giveaway to the ultra-rich at the cost of everyday families. Despite what they might say, the only way they are going to pay for their tax breaks is by taking away health care for nearly 80 million Americans, including two in three nursing home residents, two in five children, and one in three rural Americans. What’s more, over 250,000 Delawareans rely on Social Security, 300,000 rely on Medicaid, and over 70,000 veterans in Delaware deserve health care access.
“The damage that this bill will have on our constituents and on our economy is unconscionable. Our constituents deserve a seat at the table. Democrats continuously pushed for a reasonably negotiated, bipartisan spending bill. In fact, I offered three amendments to defend Medicaid and lower costs for consumers. Republicans in both chambers decided to take President Trump’s orders and do it alone. If they want to negotiate this bill alone, they should be forced to pass it alone. Needless to say, I opposed this bill. Delawareans deserve better.”
