Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) released the following statement today after voting “no” on the Republicans’ yearlong continuing resolution:

“I voted no on the partisan Republican funding bill. As a person who has prided myself on working across the aisle to get results for Delaware, I have been clear, I did not want a government shutdown and supported a short-term resolution to finish negotiations on behalf of the American people. The reality is Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. Rather than putting forward a clean funding bill as they promised, they walked away from the negotiating table and put forward a dirty deal with no input from Democrats.

“While costs rise, this administration is setting the stage to slash Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security to give tax breaks to billionaires while imposing Trump tariffs that will tax everyday Americans.

“Thousands of Delawareans have called, emailed and visited my office concerned about the chaos, confusion and cruelty on display by the Trump administration and DOGE. I voted ‘no’ to avoid giving this Administration even more power and to prevent them from having a blank check to continue illegal actions.

“In spite of today’s vote, together, we will continue to stand up for our state and country.”
