Washington, DC – Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) released the following statement on S.J.Res.26 and S.J.Res 33:
“I have long called for a lasting ceasefire in Israel and Gaza and for lasting peace and security in the entire region. That includes the return of all hostages, continuing the necessary flow of humanitarian aid, and putting an end to the thousands of civilian casualties.
“That said, increased aggression from Iran and the emergence of proxy terror groups continue to threaten Israel’s lasting security, and I believe Israel has the right to defend itself. I opposed these resolutions because I believe we should not be rescinding our support at a time when uncertainty in the region has reached a new peak. I feel strongly that any security assistance provided by the United States must be used in accordance with U.S. and international law, and we must tirelessly explore additional ways to prevent the loss of more innocent lives. But rescinding our support at this volatile time puts long-term stability at risk.”
